Dean Hering

Dean Hering is the Chief Innovator at NetCentrics Corporation and an avid GTD practitioner. His company and David's have been partners since 2002, when they collaborated to create the Getting Things Done Outlook Add-In.

Dean rides herd over the Innovate on PurposeTM program at NetCentrics' OVO division, which works with companies to help them get innovation done.

During his career, Dean has designed products, worked with NASA, built biomedical device interfaces and talking cheese graters, led international virtual reality projects (ask him about the time machine), and served as the director for the engineering center of a large R&D organization. You should ask him about his one year contract to model for the Lands End corporate catalog, during which time he made $50.

Dean is a speaker at creativity and business conferences. He works with students, including teaching a seminar to graduating engineers called Workplace Basics—the Stuff You Need to Know in the Real World.

Dean has worked internationally to produce award-winning innovations for Michelin, Volvo, KLM Airlines, John Deere, IBM, and others. In the "we are one of the good guys" category, over the last four years Dean’s team at NetCentrics has donated over 1500 hours to develop and host the organizational system used by the Jimmy V Golf Classic, which has raised over $11 million to fight cancer.

Dean has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Masters in Electrical and Computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Dean is a business owner, inventor, husband, and father of three. Outside the office, Dean is Mr. Science for several elementary schools--running science demonstration assemblies, science fairs, lofting objects with helium, making hovercrafts, and the usual other stuff dads do.
